Some time ago, you used Instagram’s Direct Messages to exchange photos with an acquaintance, and recover deleted instagram messages now you can’t remember whether or not you downloaded them to your phone’s memory. As a result, you immediately opened the app to look for the conversation containing the pictures in question but, alas, you couldn’t find it. So, without hesitation, you immediately opened Google in search of a guide that could show you how to recover Instagram chats and, for this reason, you ended up here, on my website.
If the situation you’re in is exactly what I’ve described, know that you’re in the right place, at the right time! In the course of this tutorial, in fact, I will provide you with some useful “tips” to recover the elements of Instagram chats, intervening directly on the memory of the phone.
Before you do anything else, however, I invite you to read very carefully the chapter on preliminary information, in which I explained in detail the terms under which you can complete the recovery, also providing valuable advice to protect your privacy. Please make sure you understand everything before proceeding!
PRELIMINARY INFORMATION
Before we even get into the heart of this guide and show you the techniques that can be used to recover some Instagram chat items, it’s good to let you know about the limitations of similar procedures.
To begin with, Direct (i.e. the area of Instagram dedicated to chats) is not a real messaging app: for this reason, the received messages are not downloaded in the memory of the device in use but are available only on Instagram servers.
This means that once you request the deletion of a message through the app, it will be simultaneously deleted from the social network’s servers. Since there is no local copy (i.e. saved in the memory of the device) of the message in question, the same can not be recovered in any way, unless, of course, not explicitly request a copy to its recipient!
Also be wary of online services that promise to complete this operation: in almost all cases, you will be asked to enter the credentials of your Instagram account to continue. Using such tools, besides being useless, could also be particularly harmful to your privacy: the access data released could end up in the hands of anyone, even cybercriminals, who could do almost anything with them.
It’s a different story when it comes to pictures, videos and files downloaded from Direct chats (which can be done by tapping and holding on their thumbnails and tapping Save in the menu that appears): they remain available in the device’s memory even after the chat message is deleted.
Moreover, it is possible to recover the files downloaded from Direct and then deleted from the device memory using a series of apps and programs dedicated to this purpose. Everything is explained in detail in the following chapters of this guide.
